Computers for your CI jobs, agents and experiments. One SSH away.
Persistent or ephemeral Linux virtual machines with root, Docker and your agents ready, or a fresh one per CI job. Idle boxes sleep, memory and all, and wake the moment you connect. From $3/month.
$ ssh devlbox.comOpens at launch.How it works
1
ssh devlbox.com
No app, no browser. Your SSH key is your login.
2
Pick an environment or bring your own
Choose one of our agent-first development environments, or bring anything that runs as a Docker or OCI image. You can extend ours, too.
3
You're in
Root, Docker, Claude Code, Codex and opencode are ready. Leave whenever you like; it sleeps, and you come back to the same state.
Built for long-running agents
$ devlbox --help
- Sleeps, doesn't die
- After hours of idle, not minutes, a box is saved to disk with its memory. Processes, tmux and agent sessions come back intact.
- Knows when agents work
- A box never sleeps under a busy agent: it can tell when Claude Code, Codex or opencode is working and when it's waiting for you.
- A pool, not a box
- A plan is a pool of CPU, RAM and disk. Split it across as many boxes as fit; only awake boxes count, and sleeping ones only use disk.
- Fork a running box
- Copy a box while it runs, and point another agent at the same state. Run them in parallel.
Built for CI
$ cat .github/workflows/ci.yml
on: pushjobs: test: # was: ubuntu-latest runs-on: devlbox-2cpu steps: - uses: actions/checkout@v6 - run: make testRun your CI on devlbox. For GitHub Actions, install the devlbox GitHub App and change one line: every job gets a fresh box, paid from your plan's pool.
- A fresh box per job
- Each job gets its own virtual machine with root and Docker, deleted once the job passes or is canceled. Jobs never share a box.
- No per-minute bill
- A running job uses your plan's RAM and vCPU, like an awake box. When the pool is full, jobs queue on GitHub and start as room frees up.
- SSH into a running job
- The job's log prints its box's address. Connect while it runs and watch it work.
- Failed jobs wait for you
- When a job fails, its box sleeps for hours instead of being deleted. Connect and it wakes with the job's workspace in place.
Comes with the private beta, for GitHub Actions jobs on Linux x64.
From $3/month.
$ devlbox plans
Every plan is a pool of CPU, RAM and disk. Run as many boxes as fit, and only awake boxes count. Boxes sleep after hours of idle, not minutes. No free tier, and no surprise bills: going past your plan is opt-in, with a spending cap.

FAQ
$ man devlbox
What is a box?
A dedicated Linux virtual machine with its own kernel, root access and Docker. You reach it over SSH. A persistent box keeps its disk, memory and processes between visits; an ephemeral one is made to be thrown away.
How does sleeping work?
After hours of idle, not minutes, a box is saved to disk, memory included, and stops using CPU and RAM. When you connect, it wakes and picks up where it left off. Sleeping boxes only use disk.
Which agents work?
Claude Code, Codex and opencode are preinstalled, and we know when they are working or waiting, so a box never sleeps under a busy agent. Anything that runs on Linux works too.
Can I run many agents at once?
Yes. Fork a running box for each agent, give each agent a scoped key with a spending cap, and drive it all from the API or the MCP server.
Can it run my CI?
If it's GitHub Actions, yes, from the private beta. Install the devlbox GitHub App and set runs-on to a devlbox size, such as devlbox-2cpu. Each job runs in a fresh box with Docker, paid from your plan's pool. Linux x64 jobs only: no macOS or Windows, and no ARM yet.
Are boxes isolated?
Yes. Every box is a virtual machine with its own kernel. Boxes can't reach each other, even your own, until you put them on the same private network.
Can a box serve a website?
Yes. Every box gets HTTPS at its own address: private by default, shareable with a link, public when you want.
Can I use my own image?
Yes. Start from one of our agent-first environments and extend it, or bring any Docker or OCI image.
Do I need to install anything?
No. If you have an SSH client and an SSH key, you can connect. There is no app and no browser step.
Where are the servers?
In Germany, in the EU. The company is in the Netherlands, and GDPR applies.
Is there a free tier?
No. Plans start at $3 a month.
